Applied's Training System

Applied Consultants recently announced the New Eagle Learning Management System (LMS), providing employees with a robust one-stop-shop for safety training, toolbox topics, OSHA Certification courses, enhanced software skills, HR & benefits information, safety manual, and other documents and videos. The LMS platform houses over 180 OSHA approved safety awareness courses available to all users via Laptop, Tablet or Mobile device.

The Eagle Learning Management System has replaced the need to access the legacy Veriforce site for your monthly training, and will be discontinued.

The new course library will host the standard training courses (now averaging 20-minutes, plus the test) and also the new 5-Minute OSHA approved refresher courses for the same topics. The majority of the courses focus on the OSHA Construction Standard (29 CFR 1926), and when relevant the General Industry Standard (29 CFR 1910). Designed to maximize the training experience through interactivity, our online safety courses promote engagement that creates lasting memorability, influencing safe working behaviors.

Beyond compliance courses, the Eagle LMS will use various training options designed to reinforce safety concepts and reach each employees level of participation with an ‘all-of-the-above’ training strategy. Optional content includes printable supplemental materials such as safety checklists, short safety tip videos for ‘toolbox’ style training activity, and new 5-Minute Courses for refresher training on annual safety requirements. All resources will be available through your Learning Management System (LMS).

February Near Misses

There was a new employee grinding pipe in a position where he had limited visibility and had the grinder in a bad position.

Work was stopped and the CWI talked with him, asking him to move over for a better line of sight. He shared an experience about how a grinder can bind up and come at you.

While lifting cable trays into pipe rack, two employees were standing under the unsecured load.

Work was stopped and the employees were told to move. We spoke with them about overhead loads and paying attention to their surroundings

An employee was standing on the very top step of a 6’ A frame ladder, attempting to take off a shackle from a cooler.

We stopped work and someone who was taller to take the shackles off.

The crew was working inside the compressor station performing hot work. While checking fire watch equipment, he noticed the LEL monitor was out of calibration.

The hot work was stopped until another monitor was brought onto location. We gathered the crew to have a tailgate meeting and filled out a new JSA and hot work permit.

Work was being performed in an excavated bell hole on a live line, and it was discovered that the spoil pile was right at the edge of the bell hole. Work was stopped.

The contractor performing the work was reminded of the standard for at least 2' separation of spoil from the edge of the bell hole. The spoil pile was moved and work then continued.

A side boom operator was transporting a section of pipe under an overhead power line. He was paying attention to the pipe itself and not the line when his spotter saw his boom getting dangerously close to the power source.

The spotter used Stop Work Authority to bring the equipment to a halt, point out the danger, and proceed safely without any injuries to report.

The contractor told a worker to use the chain saw to cut off a joint of poly that was too long. Watching the worker, it was clear he had no idea how to operate a chain saw.
I stopped the worker, got his foreman and explained what was going on. The foreman had a discussion with the crew and made it clear who was responsible for operating the saw. The problem was resolved.
